The
Church Street Gallery |
The Church Street Gallery was opened in May 2004 and provides
a new contemporary art and studio crafts gallery for Cromer and the surrounding
area. The gallery is housed in a listed building typical of Cromers Victorian
heritage and provides attractive display space for work from throughout the
United Kingdom. Work includes ceramics, wood and metal sculpture, glass, jewellery,
paintings, original hand produced prints, etchings and collagraphs. The predominant
theme celebrates landscape, countryside and the Sense of Place that
inspires so many artists and makers in the materials they use and the images
they present whether realistic, abstract or even fantastic!
Although the Church Street Gallery is new to Cromer the selection of work is
based on the experience of the owners Margaret and John James who previously
owned a long established gallery in Nottingham. The unique knowledge gained
through the relationships built up with artists, often over many years, and
the consistent quality of the selection contributes to the Church Street Gallerys
growing reputation for difference. The large display area and exhibition space
allows us to showcase a changing display the work of artists new
to the Gallery as well recent work of artists already featured.
