John Colliety - The Planets
Views From Saffron Walden to Neptune'
Thursday 3rd July - Saturday 30th August
PREVIEW: THURSDAY 3RD JULY/6 - 8 PM
We are delighted to announce a new exhibition of John Colliety's work - 'The Planets' - Views From Saffron Walden to Neptune' opening on Thursday 3rd July.
John Colliety is a well regarded local printmaker and long-time favourite at Church Street Gallery. We are thrilled to present John's new work, featuring new familiar local scenes as well as a stunning series of The Planets, examining the wonders of our solar system, inviting the viewer to contemplate the majesty of our local surroundings and our neighbouring planets.
John studied paper conservation at Camberwell School of Art in the 1980s. As part of his course, he tried various styles of printmaking. He returned to making linocuts 20 years ago and works at St Barnabas Press Studios in Cambridge. John is inspired by linocuts of the mid-20th century and nature he sees in rural Essex.
A little known fact about John is that until recently he was a local postman, retiring just last year. You can often find a subtle nod to his days as a postman in the postcode titles he chooses for many of his works.
To celebrate the opening of John's exhibition we are hosting an evening preview from 6-8 pm with free drinks and nibbles and a chance to meet John and hear firsthand all about his new collection.
We will be adding John's new collection online in the coming weeks but his past work is available to view and purchase at the link below.
